Help Bess the Brahmin is an unmarked quest in Fallout 2.

Quick walkthrough

  • Have Doctor skill above 25%.
  • Cure Bess' leg.
  • Sell Bess to Grisham. (optional)

Reward: 300 meat jerky, -5 Karma, 200 XP

  • Release the brahmin from the slaughterhouse. (optional)

Reward: Modoc reputation loss, +10 Karma

Detailed walkthrough

Bess broke her leg. If you have a Doctor skill above 25% you can help fix it. After that, she'll follow you around Modoc. She will not enter the underground sections of the town, but will wait on the surface. She will stay in your party until you leave Modoc. You can then sell her to Grisham (if Grisham is dead, this role is taken by his brother Biff) in exhange for 100 Meat Jerky after 3 months and a loss of 5 Karma. If you change your mind, you can release her and the rest of the brahmin in the slaughterhouse pen for 10 Karma, but your reputation with Modoc will take a hit.

Notes

  • Bess will attack any enemies she sees, like a normal companion, providing (very marginal) help in protecting Grisham's brahmin and clearing Farrel's garden.
  • Bess will disappear forever if the Chosen One goes down into the Modoc caves (this includes the well and outhouse).
