« The Novasurge has proven to be a tough nut to crack. The output is still very high, causing massive injury to targets, but it's drawing far too much power from its energy cells. We also need to get the weight down on the weapon, as it's a bit heavy for a simple replacement sidearm. »
— Dr. Aldwin Morley, MPLX "Novasurge" prototype plasma pistol
The MPLX Novasurge is a weapon Modèle:In. It is a unique plasma pistol.
Présentation
The Novasurge is a prototype plasma pistol developed by Doctor Aldwin Morley fourteen years before the Grande Guerre in secret for the Enclave utilizing the technology of the Zetan aliens.[Non-game 1] As a prototype, it was not adopted due to concerns about its energy cell drain rate and weight caused by the coolant coils. Despite these concerns, the weapon housing was approved for use in the final design.[1] The Novasurge prototype was stolen before the War by an organization called Quaere Verum, with the help of Doctor Morley, as proof of the existence of "the conspiracy:" the government coverup of extraterrestrial life and usage of alien technology.[Non-game 1][Non-game 2] Quaere Verum initially thought they had gotten away with the theft, but were betrayed by Morley, who had cooperated with the group to draw them out. As the Enclave successfully tracked down and killed the members of Quaere Verum, the last surviving member Reid Underwood took measures to ensure that the evidence of the Enclave they had died for would not be lost. Underwood stored the Novasurge with a report on its development from Morley in a safe, then networked the safe to his computer terminal. Having configured the safe so that his terminal would need to be activated in order to retrieve the prototype, Underwood buried them both in a desert.[2] The safe and Underwood's terminal were later taken by aliens, who stored them both in the Cargo hold of their Mothership.
Caractéristiques
The weapon acts very similarly to the plasma pistol it formed the basis for, barring several prototype features. First and foremost, this weapon does more than three times as much damage as the regular plasma pistol and has a higher critical multiplier (3x as opposed to 2x). However, it uses two energy cells to power each shot and weighs twice as much as the normal plasma pistol.
The MPLX Novasurge is paired best with an optimized critical hit build, killing human enemies in 1-2 shots (light to medium armored, such as raiders) and 2-4 shots (heavy armored, such as Enclave soldiers) and stronger wasteland creatures such as deathclaws in 3-5 shots. It is viable as a weapon in any stage of the game. However, the cost of this devastating damage is being forced to regularly maintain the weapon, as the dual energy cell consumption drastically drains the condition, and heavy usage is not advised without the proper resources.
Durabilité
The MPLX Novasurge can fire a total of about 188 times, the equivalent of 24 reloads, from full condition before breaking. That is 212 times fewer than the common plasma pistol.
