Il est diplômé de la Brown University en 1986 et a depuis travaillé à Los Angeles , New York et Washington DC Il est le fils de Leola Roscoe, un avocat, et Ron Dellums , l'ancien représentant Américain de la Californie et maire d'Oakland .<br />

Dellums a fait des apparitions mineures dans plusieurs films de Spike Lee au début de sa carrière, comme She's Gotta Have It et Do the Right Thing. <br />

Dellums prête sa voix pour le jeu vidéo [[Fallout 3]] incarnant le personnage [[Fallout 3 : Three Dog|Three Dog]], le DJ d'une station de radio du jeu appelé [[Fallout 3 : Galaxy New Radio|Galaxy New Radio]]. <br />
